Morris Communications v the PoPo
The Associated Press reports that the Savannah Morning News, (a paper owned by the Morris Publishing Group which also puts out the Augusta Chronicle), is asking the state attorney general's office to intervene in a dispute with the Savannah-Chatham County police. The police department no longer provides daily copies of incident reports for the public. Savannah police say the change is necessary due to a new electronic system for filing crime reports and that the public can still request copies of individual reports. The newspaper says the police are violating the state Open Records Act- that the police are required to provide immediate access to all crime reports.
